Redding wants to stay at BMW but admits: "I’m looking at every option"

The British rider has made clear what his preference is but revealed he’s looking at options ahead of a mid-July deadline…

Silly season is in full swing in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship with one rider holding a key place in the rider market for 2024. Scott Redding (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) is currently without a seat for next season but he explained what his priority is ahead of his home round at Donington Park. The 12-time race winner spoke about his WorldSBK future ahead of track action getting underway for the Prosecco DOC UK Round with the Brit admitting time was running out.

Redding joined BMW for the 2022 campaign after two seasons with Ducati, but the 30-year-old is yet to win a race with the German manufacturer. A year ago, at Donington, he claimed his first podium with the Shaun Muir Racing-run squad which kickstarted a strong run of form, but he is yet to hit those heights again in 2023. He hasn’t yet recorded a top-six finish this season with a best of seventh coming at Assen in Race 2.

He recently revealed he had until July 15th, the Saturday of Imola, to decide whether he wishes to stay with BMW into 2024 which would be his third year with the team. The factory BMW squad have already signed 2021 Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) for next season but the name of his teammate is currently unclear. Scott Redding and Michael van der Mark are the incumbents at BMW with the Dutchman being temporarily replaced by Tom Sykes while he recovers from injury.

Discussing his future, Redding said: “There’s no news for what’s going on, I just want to focus on what I’m doing this weekend. We’ll see after here a bit more what’s going on, but time is running out on what I will do. You have to keep waiting for the moment. My priority is to continue in World Superbike, but I am looking in every area and at every option, like a lot of riders do, whether that’s here or somewhere else. I would like to continue with BMW. I feel like we can make it happen but it’s a hard time for me to be thinking about what the potential is. I need to believe in the project like they’ve believed in me, and I just think that this weekend, having a reset and regroup and to understand a bit more, will help me make some decisions for the future.”

Redding burst into WorldSBK back in 2020 when he signed for Ducati and took the title fight to the final round although he was edged out by Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK). Razgatlioglu joined the party in 2021 as he claimed the title with Redding’s association with Ducati ending at the end of that year. He linked up with BMW for 2022 and 2023 and has three podiums with the manufacturer so far.
